Dr. Keating began her running career only seven years ago in 2006 at the Fredericton Half Marathon and finished in a remarkable time of 1:26 and from then on she was hooked.

The following year she ran the New York City ½ marathon (13.1 mile) in 1:25:15 and placed third overall in her age group.

In 2008 she won the Valley Harvest ½ marathon in Wolfville NS with a course record of 1:24.

In September 2009 she won the ½ Marathon by the Sea outright, defeating all 306 male and female runners in 1:23:14, another drop in her best time. She defeated her nearest male competitor by 40 seconds in the race.

2010 saw Paula set a new course record of 1:22:16 in the Rock n Run ½ marathon, on the Miramichi.

In September 2011, Paula became the first Woman to win the Demi marathon de l?Acadie in Tracadie-Sheila, outright defeating all male and female competitors. The Demi-marathon de l?Acadie celebrated its 300th consecutive race in October.

The New York Marathon was the first of her seven races in which she has been producing incredible times going sub three hours in each of them.

She is the only New Brunswick female to ever break the three-hour time barrier and she did it in all seven of her races.

Dr. Keating has been invited to the New York and Boston Marathons to run with the elite world class marathon runners a total of three times.

She has been rubbing shoulders with the top 50 or so world class runners for the past two years.

Paula is not only the top female marathon runner in New Brunswick history,but she also excels in the other distances as well.

She owns three NB records:

  • 15km of 56:33 set on route in New York
  • ½ marathon of 1:19:16 set in New York
  • marathon record of 2:47:26 set in Boston.

Also to her credit she has other standards only a few male runners can better and female runners only dream of.

  • 10km in 36:30

On the Run NB racing series, called "Run for the Cycle" where every competitor in NB is measured by their time performance over five races ranging from the 5km to the marathon. Paula is third only to Lee Roy of Beresford and Alex Coffin of Saint John.

Her cumulative time of 5:31.38 is over an hour and 20 minutes ahead of her nearest female competitor.

Paula has been awarded the Female Runner of the Year in New Brunswick for the past four years.

On her home front she has captured the Miramichi River Runners Road Racing series championship, a grueling 23 race series, for a record seven years in a row. No male has won more than six titles.

All competitors must run seven of the club's 5km races and one of three mile,10km and cross country races for a total of 10 races. Points are awarded for each placement ranging from 50 for first to at least one point for all runners.
